While on do a speediest.net on wireless and wired configurations and see what the results are. Also check your DNS settings, are they static or DHCP?
It appears he already did a wired test. Additionally, DNS would not affect a speed test, as these tests measure data transfer time which occurs after DNS resolution. It could affect loading times for other sites though from a user perspective, as DNS resolution could be included.
OP, have you tried changing channels?

Instead of having an AT&T/Rogers/Fido/O2/Verizon/etc... subforum, why not have two separate subforums. One for GSM, one for CDMA.

So the Verizon deal really didn't help them with the iPhone and Apple lost again more marketshare in the smartphone market. Not good especially as Google now ships almost 40 million Android phones per quarter. Maybe a cheap iPhone nano might help Apple to get back into a competing position.

Yeah, Steve did only say 802.11 which strikes me as odd, but why would they use n in the set top box, when all of the current Macs have g? I don't see Apple telling everyone who just bought a new Mac "too bad"
Unless recent Macs have 802.11n which just needs a firmware update to unlock it.

I have set up the MacBook of my girl friend to get remote access to my home network by a VPN connection. I did this mainly to make it possible for her to copy files from my MacPro. The VPN connection works very well but she cannot "see" my MacPro in the Finder. When she comes visiting me and logs into my network by WLAN she can see the MacPro and download files.
What is my mistake? I assumed that the MacPro treats an incoming VPN connection like another Mac which is on the network. Apparently this is wrong. What can I do to make it work as I want it to work?

I think it's possible you will see Apple come out with a different stand-alone display for a different market segment.
Apple sells a boatload of laptops, and everyone where I work that uses them, has a screen in their office that they connect to when they are in. The ACD is just not the screen for this market segment. It's too expensive and has all kinds of high end qualities that these folks don't need (or even know about.)
We might see Apple come out with a screen something like that rumored docking station. Glossy, thin, built in isight etc., and made primarily to connect to your laptop. The screen part however, would likely be of "acceptable" quality only, like the one in the current 17" iMac, and thus cheaper. This is a fairly low-end, cost conscious market though and not somewhere Apple generally tries to compete, so who knows.
Apple coming out with a low end display, is like saying Apple is going to release a cheap midtower. It's not going to happen. The low end display and midtower are already out, it's called an iMac.

I'd probably try a simple update instead of a clean install.
And considering that you've got a decent backup of your system (right? :D), it shouldn't be a problem if that goes wrong. You can still do a clean install in that case and migrate your data from your backup.
whats the risk if there isnt a backup?

Microsoft could have so easily saved face had they just sold the Zune brand, manufacturing rights, etc. to some second-tier company, even if just for a token amount of a dollar.
They did - to the Cell Phone Companies and their called, "Windows Mobile Phones"...

Hello Macrumors,
I want to get a Mac Mini, just to have a nice little desktop at home.
Im going to hook it up to dual monitors, (which i already have), and so i have a few questions.
1) do dual monitors use up more RAM? if so...
2) how much RAM is a safe amount (im buying aftermarket), if i want to run iTunes, Google Chrome, PS CS5, AI CS5, a lot of the time at the same time?
3) is the Core 2 Duo capable of that?! And if i got the 2.66 GHz over the 2.4, would i notice the difference.
4) Last but not least, if i want to use it mainly as a windows machine, and boot it from windows, how much should i keep for the mac partition.
i ask the -windows- question because i have a friend who adores the design of Macs, but simply cannot get used to Mac OSX (long time windows user), so he wants to put windows onto it. Whats the minimum amount of GB's he should keep on the Mac Partition?
Also, can you change how much each partition gets later on? if so, how?
thank you for reading,,

In geography, actually. Which, just to sound weird, was where I was during the July 7th London attacks. And the failed London ones (can't remember the date)
But don't fear! I've dropped it this year, so the attacks should clear up...

Sorry, a very poorly constructed sentence. I meant that MacWrite and MacDraw were present in the "all original disks and cassette tapes" (hence my use of two 'and's in that sentence I'd mentally turned them into a single item).
I turned down the $1000 Mac on the basis that without having any idea how much the item should cost, it was unlikely I'd chance upon the correct price like this, and I'm not so interested in owning one that if $1000 turns out to be well below average then I'll be forever regretful.
For the record, I've recently seen one go on eBay with no boxes, the original floppy drive broken (but an external one provided for booting, etc) go for a little over 600 and there's currently one on eBay without boxes but fully working and exceptionally unaffected by time, with an external floppy drive with a buy-it-now price of $775.

:mad:Theres really no way to do it on OSX if they are windows programs. As long as you use a bit of common sense, you shouldn't have a problem with Windows on the Mac. Any virus, trojan, or malware will only affect the Windows partition, not OSX. If all you are doing is installing Android stuff on the Windows partition, you should be okay.
Getting the best of both worlds! Being a dummy, how do i install windows on a mac or better still partision the system.

I have the ARC-1880i card so I can answer some of your questions
1. Setup. Very straightforward ARECA provides a web interface that is very reliable
2. Reliability. So far I had no problems, I cannot say the same for highpoint, with that card I already had 2 RAID 5 crashes. The areca is handling an array of 4 SSDs on RAID 0 (I perform daily backups for this one to a velociraptor)
3.I just flashed the EFI driver following NANOFROG's advice and with that I was able to boot from the SSD that look as a 480GB image to OS X
4.Cable setup. I have 2 SAS-SATA cables and was able to route them to the second ODD were I have the 4 SSD drives
Looks like for the four 3.5" bays on the Mac Pro I'll need something like in the below link to use the 1880 series Areca raid controller with 4x HDD's in those bays.
http://www.maxupgrades.com/istore/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=189%20
Care to post the instructions or link to the thread with details on flashing the Areca card that NANOFROG gave you?
How many RAID volumes can you configure using the one Areca controller using the internal ports? I am guessing all drives that connect using the ( MiniSAS- SATA 4x multiplier). So for two internal 6G ports on the RAID controller (8 drives in any number of RAID configs). I want to run a 4x HDD RAID5 and 2x SSD's in non raid off the one controller. Maybe even go for the 1880-ix with external RAID support for a 3rd external RAID1 volume, all of the same controller. Wondering how much RAM I will need in this case, would 512MB default be enough you think?

I was working the early shift at Sydney International Airport that day. On the shuttle bus to the airport the radio announcer said a plane had flown into a building in New York, we all laughed because we thought he must have gotten his information wrong.
When we arrived at the airport there on the screens was the event unfolding, much to our horror. I recall as the morning progressed the news was being broadcast on all the TV's around the terminal. Everyone was sitting around looking pasty faced and flights were systematically being cancelled. No-one (workers or passengers) were speaking, it was surreal. However all the oriental passengers were buzzing around, shopping, eating and joking. For them it was an opportunity to shop unimpeded. It was like they didn't see the screens around them. Occasionally they'd look up and then would go on with what they were doing.

i had an apple bt mouse... sold it only because i had no more bluetooth module, anyway. i used it for about a month before it was sold and i have never replaced the factor supplied energizer batteries, not to mention it was the best mouse i have ever had, but it was only one button, and man i hate that. if they just put a scrolling device on there it would be the greatest thing ever.

So the previous "beta" releases on the Mac were just alphas? Interesting. How long has Opera 8 been in the making? I am surprised that they're already releasing it, but maybe it just feels short.
