Fair comment, I thought something was up as he has not posted anything on twitter for ages, until today.

Engadget claims (http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/22/apple-to-do-ebooks/) that according to two separate "trustworthy" sources, Apple is working on incorporating electronic books into the next versions of the iPod.
They also claim that the upcoming iPod will have "a substantial amount of screen real estate" alongwith a book-reading mode for easy reading. This rumor is consistent with long-standing rumors of a full screen video iPod (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/03/20060302125931.shtml) that would launch alongside iTunes Movie sales.
Engadget believes that Apple would also launch electronic book sales via iTunes as well to provide content for this new iPod functionality. The reliability of Engadget's sources are unknown.
I'd rather read normal book. Screens will make your eyes cry.

OK, so their inital aim was implicitly to get in-the-face of smug Mac users. And then Apple "leans" on them, so they go all nicey-nice and 'decide' to a USB wifi card instead? Doesn't this seem slightly odd to anyone else?

What I don't like about my iPod Touch is that it takes 10-20 seconds to just load up the "music app". I've cleared off all files that weren't music, gone through numerous firmware updates. 29gb of music takes ages to load up.
Not so on my iPod 5.5G. Loads anything up instantly - songs, videos, photos. Feels like the powerhouse of MP3 players.
Apple hates physical buttons. No Apple device in the past ten years has ever moved backwards in the drive to eliminate physical buttons.
iPod 3G was fully touch operated (save for the hold switch).
iPod 4G+Photo went backwards and added physical buttons. To this day they still haven't gone back to the full touch design of the 3G.

Strange, because everyone said that Apple would release the MB and MBPs on the 12th, but not all of a sudden it shifted to the iMac
I'm surprised we haven't started with those "New PowerBook Next Tuesday" rumors, they were fun.

I've got a 3-hour train journey both Saturday and Sunday, so could do with a new iPod. Did the keynote mention whether these are in the Apple retail stores immediately?

and yet another from this weekend's visit to Loreto ...

Cool shot! I loved that place when I visited 5 years ago, and your photo instantly took me back to the sunrises there... I'll try to dig up one or two of my old shots and post them, too.

Seems like I recognize that place... even some of the boats... ;) Post more, if you have any. I'm always keen to see someone else's interpretation of a familiar place (at least to me...)
Nice dog shot. I really like the bokeh and the dog's expression.
Cheers. Thanks. She's a very expressive dog, besides being as weird as they come from a feral Baja genepool.
Okay, I posted this just to balance out the dog photo. ;)

Ok..all cool here...but they need to push REALLY hard with speech recognition software in order to be successful. At least some some possibility for software to learn your accent etc.

If i compared the high end MacBook to the high end 15" MacBook Pro, would these be the only notable differences?

I agree with you there is just something about the 13" MacBook that doesn't fit but the 12" its PERFECT
Agreed. I love my 12" so much I fondle it every night before bedtime, much to my boyfriend's chagrin. I surf the web in bed before sleepy-time. It keeps him awake.

"switchers" ... plain and simple :D
Buyer satisfaction with other Apple products is clearly filtering down into Mac sales. This trend will only continue to strengthen.

possibilities:
1. Airport Express 2.0 with support for video streaming or (Airtunes 2.0)
2. Wireless AppleTV
3. WiMax or 3G integrated with new MacBooks
4. Slingbox to iPhone (as already rumored)
5. Some sort of iTunes integration with in-flight entertainment
6. Super-light MacBooks
7. Phil Shiller suspended from the roof using an ingenious system of wires and runners. I'm sure Phil was made to jump through the air with an iBook in 1999 on to a huge safety mat.
Earlier this week I saw a rumor about Apple and Garmin joining forces at this years MacWorld. I hope it's true as I bought some Garmin stock earlier this week and already hold 899 shares of Apple.
Garmin and Disney have partnered (http://www.atmapsend.com/) before and I believe Steve Jobs has more than a passing interest in Disney (board member), so this only adds fuel to the fire.

I'm not trying to pee in Apple's Cheerios at all...but i do wonder at what point will they reach a plateau in sales growth.
Valid question. As your next statement points out, Apple is making inroads to China. They also shook up their management overseeing Japan a few years ago, and I believe that, along with the iOS halo effect, they are enjoying great growth there, too. Just look at the lines at Japanese store events.

The BBC link below - seems to suggest it's all batteries including the latest portables.... however it could be a reporter just not knowing the difference between a PB/iBook and MBP etc

So what would you do with this edu discount option, now that everything's been updated to the C2D line:
13.3" MBP (White - mid level) for $1199
13.3 MBP (Black) for $1399
OR
15.4 MBP for $1799.
What's the sweet spot -- if you're doing all the basics plus occasional video editing of short commercial projects and the periodic photoshop use?

Ummm.... I was of the impression that in a couple of markets People tried to promote HSPA+ as 4G and got smacked. Pretty much 4G must be a true 4G tech like LTE to use the name.
Nope.

My 32GB ssd ipod mini is still going strong. These things last pretty well, so even if they discontinue them, buy one on ebay or something and it might last you until something else comes along.

It's true that a high megapixel count is not anything like the most important factor about a camera, but everything else being equal more megapixels is better than fewer megapixels. I seriously doubt Apple is going to add megapixels just for the number on the specs list.
Why are you comparing the users? A good comparison would be the same user (good or bad) using different cameras/mobiles to take photographs.
I don't understand your argument.
I think the point is that the technical specs of a photo, and the camera it was taken on, can't make a badly lit, poorly composed photo a good one, and (within reason) can't totally destroy the work of a good photographer who knows what they are doing but only had access to a 'lesser' camera.
Another way of looking at it might be that Leonardo da Vinci could do more impressive work with a pencil and paper than many people could do with a studio full of photoshop artists.

If a >=20MB app install needs to be done through WiFi, why a 500-6XXMB system update can be done through 3G?

Based on scripture I personally believe that while man is definitely capable of "good" due to the fact that he has been created in the image of God, that image has been marred by sin. This leaves man in a "broken" condition and at the core we are selfish by nature. On the contrary, based on scripture, the elohim made man in their own image complete with all their own foibles and traits. El was jealous, vengeful, prone to anger: why would humans be any different?
The human spirit is capable of many good things, but without an accurate understanding of who God is and our relationship to him these good works become nothing but acts of vanity and self glorification that serve only to advance pride and promote self-reliance.I find this statement utterly appalling. Do those who sacrifice themselves for others do so from selfish motives?

When new products are released in a keynote like the one coming up, are they normally ready to ship?
It just depends. Motorola was notoriously slow at ramping up production of new chips. Consequently, Apple would release new hardware and buyers would have to wait 1-3 months to receive them. That has since improved since Apple got a lot of bad press from that practice. I'm guessing that you'll have to wait a couple weeks for conroe & woodcrest based systems and perhaps a month for merom.
