Shipping times have slipped to 2-3 weeks. Looks like I'm gonna have to find a line somewhere today then for sure!
I'll buy you one for a price plus the price of the iPad. PM if interested.

Any updates? I realize the line is big but is it still looking get-able if I'm there soon?

One can only speculate. Best guess IMO would be end somewhere b/w May - June alongside Lion OSX.

I didn't say I supported AllofMP3's way to do their shady business, I meant that legal downloading should be modelled like AllofMP3 AND that the artists should get paid.
If only we live in the perfect world, every business is out there for it's own interest - Jon, Record Company and AllofMP3 included. time to wake up and smell the coffee guys!

I'm trying to choose between a new stock-configured Dual GHz from Apple and a 3-month-old QS which includes a 3-yr. AppleCare plan (minus 3 mos.), a gig of ram, a SuperDrive, and an external 40-gig Maxtor FW drive--each one for the approximate same price ($2350). In other words, at the educator's price, I can get the new one at about the same price as the used one w/extras. On the other hand, the used one's AppleCare will not cover the 17" Apple LCD Display I'll be buying later w/out a rebate; whereas, Apple's currently offering a $200 rebate when customers buy the cpu and display together.
Because benchtests reveal little difference in performance between these two models, and some posters have even complained about noise problems and little gain in overall speed in the current line, I'm wondering which will offer the best bang for the buck. I'll eventually be using FCP3 burning DVDs on whatever I get, but I'm unsure of the difference between them. I've seen that everymac.com lists the street value of the QS Feb 2002 dual GHz as worth a few hundred more than the current stock-configured dual GHz, and that these were going fast in August when smalldog and others had a few still in stock. Moreover, the used one also offers the extra warranty.
As an educator, am I better off w/one of the new ones and buying an Apple monitor at the same time, or going w/the "older" model and buying a monitor later w/out the AppleCare plan or rebate?
I could really use some input, especially since there's few reviews available on the new models, and I'm unsure how big of a difference there is between the 167MHz bus speed and the older 133, or the type of RAM each uses. The extra expansion bays are not really necessary in my work, either.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Rick

I am curious. Has anyone else had success setting this up? How is it working out for you?
I was able to get it working. Thanks for your instructions. Now I need to wait for TW to improve their service so I can actually get more than 5 secs of video stream. I would be very interested to know if anyone who has TW cable has been able to get this to work reliably.

I've installed a bunch of new Win7 machines over the last days, including Macs, and all installed and updated to SP1 just fine.
Hmm... I wonder why it won't let me update then. I left it on the "installing updates" status for like 4 hours and it was still at 0%. I'll try again tonight.

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious.
I say tax all of his money except a few hundred million, because it is consistent with what we've learned.
First, we've learned that people are not dissuaded from working hard and making more money out of fear of having the extra money taxed more consequentially. That doesn't happen. People work just as hard for the next dollar, regardless if they get to keep all of it, or just a few pennies.
Second, we've learned that the wealthiest people use more resources and do more damage along the way. Taxing all of his money except a few hundred million will help bring back those resources and fix those damages.
Third, he is more able to pay taxes than other people, and we have learned that that is the standard for taxation. Assuming his wealth is $40,000,000, he is definitely more able to pay $39,500,000 than anyone else. And since he can pay, he should pay.
Fourth, we have learned that the public sector is more efficient to help those in need, and is better at discerning who is in need, than the private sector. I point that out because of your comment about the Gates' foundation donations. That money should be taxed, and the better qualified entity - the government - should discern its distribution.
Fifth - and finally - we've learned that it is the government, not the private sector, that gets us out of a recession/depression. If he were to spend his $40,000,000, it would not help the economy. If all of that were taxed except half a billion, then the government could funnel the taxed $39,500,000 to things that help the economy grow.

There was some good speculation going on at the PreNAB Editor's Lounge. Mark Raudonis was one of the few that got to see the new FCP at Apple recently.

Of course he couldn't say much due to the NDA. I'm still excited to see what the big changes are, but I'm not very optimistic after watching this. Luckily we're likely only a few days away from finding out for sure.

Download the Linux drivers located On Samsung's Website (http://www.samsung.com/au/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=ML-1710)
Extract the file, you should have a folder called 'cdroot'
Navigate to cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share
you should see a folder named 'ppd' - Get info and change it's permissions to read/write for yourself and read for everyone else, apply to all enclosed items.
Remove and start re-adding your printer in System Preferences.
You will see a list named 'Print Using' - it will likely be set to Auto, choose Other.
Navigate back to cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd
Choose 'ML-1710spl2.ppd'
Done :D
OSX uses CUPS for printing like linux - printing support is provided in cups by a 'PostScript Printer Definition' file; These are interchangeable.

So, I think im going to buy the newest 2011 13" MBP today, but my friend is overing to trade his mid-2009 2.8 C2D MBP for it because he wants a 13".
Do you think the trade is worth it? The extra space would be really nice. Would you do it and which benchmarks faster? Which is better on paper? Thanks!!

I don't think it is going to go up in value for a while yet. I personally love the systems, and agree with the idea that it should be worth more though :) .
I still find a use for my 840av, typing up blogs and actually listening to CDs. Gotta love the built in DSP for sound recoridng too ;) .

If you just want a PPC to play with, get a powermac, they are very cheap. In my opinion, G4 laptops are way over priced, unless you get lucky, like I did with my iBook. I also bought a Powermac 933 mgz Quicksilver, with Leopard installed for only $50.
That was a steal

Hello,
An issue I have wasted way too much time on and hoping for some insight here. I have a bunch of PDF's I am trying to open in illustrator. The vector images come through alright, but all the text is converted to . If I save the PDF again in Preview as a PDF-X the text now appears as random numbers and symbols like: +4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!
I am now saying "+4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!" and any insight would be appreciated.
PS the text will copy and paste with no errors from preview into word or illustrator. It is only when I open the file in illustrator the text is gone.
