Happy Birthday Bloated Jake!
I used to be a big fan of the classic iPod Then, like many people I guess, I finally got my hands on an iPhone and never looked back. The iPod Touch (we own two in our family, in addition to iPhones) is hands-down a more exciting device than the Classic in every way. You may not think yourself 'much into apps and stuff' now, but I'll wager if you get one, you'll soon find yourself doing more with the device than you first imagined. I think it's that kind of experience for most people.
Of course, you need to make sure you have the storage capacity for your music collection. I only have a 16GB iPhone, and it's just not big enough to store all my music and apps. I certainly wouldn't bother with the 8 GB Touch, but the 32 and 64 GB options might be worth looking at.

Apple makes nice money off every iOS devices they sell. With App store, iTunes store and iBook store, their Software and hardware sales will grow.
Their MBA sales are growing and those devices aren't cheap.
Apple is going to soon have more than 100 billion dollars in their backyard.
Btw, Apple is going to blow away on next Quarter as long as they can launch iPhone 5 on both AT&T and Verizon. Doubt that they will put LTE chip inside, but it will be available on two of the biggest networks in the US. This will not stop.

Wow. Let's hope it looks better than that diagram. Anyways this would be the ultimate iPod (Could be a 4 or 5 inch screen). Of course, the screen needs to be more scratch resistant than previous generations. And they have to bump up the resolution on their iTunes store. But I'd be surprised if we see this anytime soon.
Judging by the size of the fingers, this thing is at least 5x7. :D
If the entire surface of the ipod isn't more scratch resistant than previous generations I probably won't buy one. I have my cell phone in my pocket all day and it is barely scratched after months of daily use. My iPod 5G got those fine scraches on it just from sliding it into the case that *Apple included with the ipod*.

@Munkees, do I understand correctly that you now make use of Aperture to manage "referenced" files: importing iPhoto's existing folders and/or albums?
Then, how do you organize your hierarchy: years (1999, ...) as a 'project', events like travels as a 'folder', a country (for example "USA") as an 'album', and a specific visit ("Yosemite", "Grand Canyon North rim", "Grand Canyon South rim") as a 'sub folder' or 'sub album')?
I really never have been one for organizing by year, but rather by places / events.
I did not import form iPhoto, I exported my pictures, then brought them into Aperture.
I now have all my photos kept in their own folders on the HD, and when they get imported into Aperture, I have the preference do not copy files. I will not have nested folders, i want to be able to find my images quickly on the HD, even though this is not that important.
example visit to Yosemite will be in a folder on the HD (in the pictures folder) called "Yosemite". If I got back and take more photos, I will just add them to the same folder, unless there are some good reason to separate them.

If you have an unformated hard drive in there then the Mini should automatically boot from the DVD, no key press required. The Mini should look for any available bootable OS's on startup and lacking it's default, choose one.
Are you getting a Kernel Panic screen on boot? A gray screen telling you to restart your computer by pressing the power button in multiple languages? If so then something is amiss, because unless something has changed in the last few years, without a bootable OS the mini should just flash a circle with a line through it (no idea what the symbol is called, but like a No Smoking sign without a cigarette in it).
Are you trying to start up from the Restore DVD that came with the Mini or a retail Snow Leopard DVD?
Thank you, Norouzi - your description fits what I see on my screen, ie. it must be the Kernel Panic screen, meaning that my new Mini didn't like the unformatted bigger and speedier HD that I put in there.
I was trying to start by installing the Snow Leopard with an authentic installation DVD.
I just borrowed an Apple USB keyboard from my banker over the week end :) - so I'll just give it try, hopefully at least I can eject the DVD with it.

It is possible to have the songs in two formats on iTunes, although I don't know how Sonos would deal with it.
I know iTunes can definitely do it. Not sure about sonos.
Thanks :)
I would like to isolate the songs I have and use on my Iphone 4 32GB into one separate folder/directory - so that I know these songs are for my Iphone ONLY, meaning they won't contain any lossless files, which takes up too much space on my 32 GB limited Iphone 4 music player.
Is this possible ?
I could in theory have my full music folder on my 2 TB Time Capsule for my Sonos and then have the music I only use for my Iphone on my internal HDD drive in my iMac...... maybe this is the solution, so the music does not get mixed up !?!

i really doubt that people will be camping out front of the cap hill overnight. last year i showed up around 7 or so, and was like 6th in line. i know that this is at 8am instead of 5pm, but still - people are gonna wanna get up around the same time, in my opinion.

With my car system, volume 18 with my iPhone maxed is equivelent to around 30 with my Nano - at this volume I have the sound of gentle hissing when paused. Not cool.
What kind of system are you connected to that the iPod volume even makes a difference? Mine connects to the truck's USB port and it's treated like a "line in" - the volume can only be adjusted with the stereo deck in the dash.

If you need to get some music back from iPod to iBook, there are several apps that do that (itunes does not), e.g. iTunes Viewer (you find it from versiontracker, it's freeware). I have 20 g HD + 20 G iPod and do the same thing ;)

Based on the above drawings, this would be a disaster.
The interface is now clunky, crowded and unintuitive.
Biggest problem- take a look-it will require two hands to operate, thereby negating what every one else has been trying to imitate-the ease of use of the iPod scroll wheel.
Oh please... This is a stupid drawing, the iPod is not gonna look like this. The Apple engineers know what they are doing.

Sorry let me clarify, I'm @ BB in SLC. There is just me here, well my chair and me. At 4PM they give you a ticket so you don't have to wait in line for the last hour. So stupid.

I have a 2009 13" MBP 2.26 C2D, 4 GB RAM, and I am looking to upgrade to the 15" low end model. Now I am a college student, and I do a lot of webcaming(iChat), MS Office, Firefox, movie watching, and looking at large(100+ pgs) PDFs(>100MB), and yes, I do a lot of this at once. I can have about 7 or 8 things open at once. So far, my computer is holding up, but sometimes it can hang. Pretty soon I am also going to start playing some games, and I know the integrated graphics are a step up from my 9400M. I am really looking forward to the 15" screen, but I am wondering if I will really see a difference in my day to day activities with at 2.0 Core i7 Quad. I know that an i7 Quad is overkill for me, but I believe in resale value and future proofing. Also, do you think it would be worth it do upgrade the screen resolution?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

I second setting up a local DNS, you could use BIND on an existing mac or recycle an old PC and install BIND on linux, use os x server, etc.
Other things to consider, if your hosts are obtaining IP addresses via DHCP you'll have to configure your DHCP server to assign the local DNS server IP address, right now it's probably assigning the IP address of your router/gateway you'll also need to set the search domain for your hosts so you don't have to type full domain names everytime.
If hosts have static IPs don't forget to manually set the DNS server IP and search domain.
On your DNS server, just set the forwarder IP address to what the DNS IPs are in your current router configuration, your ISPs DNS or you could just use OpenDNS servers which is what I usually do if I set up a local DNS server.
Did a quick search on the web and found this: http://www.macshadows.com/kb/index.php?title=How_To:_Enable_BIND_-_Mac_OS_X's_Built-in_DNS_Server ... could be useful. If you browse around enough you could find a way to do it on an existing Mac w/o installing server OS.

That was another one I was going to mention. What does it cover? Steve? Apple in general? Apple vs. Microsoft? Thanks. I'd like to get a couple of books, which sorta cover all the above points when combined, if you see what I mean. :)
Thanks

IS helps in low light and longer focal lengths. It isn't so much a need in say a 18-55 but is very beneficial when you have say a 70-200. In low light it will allow you to shoot about 2 stops slower shutter speed without noticeable camera shake but with practice that can be achieved as well.
The DC is for the DC-micro motor instead of USM motor found in newer and more expensive lenses. I'd say get what you can afford and learn to shoot in manual. Having a single lens forces you to adapt to situations. There are many times I will only bring a single lens with me even though I have 6. It forces you to look for solutions and that is something that is important for becoming a decent photographer, IMHO.

Could you drop a URL ?
Beatport.com, juno.co.uk, trackitdown.net, emusic (though they need higher bit rates).
Admittedly they're biased a little to electronics but that's what I listen to.
